Abstract: |
A watching brief was held over wall underpinning works. The most common deposits seen were early post-medieval dumps, perhaps with an added levelling function. The discovery of a 17th/18th century wall, incorporating a fireplace and chimney indicated the presence of the south-east end of a brick building, a column base in the wall foundation suggested the re-use of architectural stone. The addition of a south-east extension, perhaps later in the 18th century, was indicated by the fireplace built against the wall; the plaster facing the fireplace also being more recent than on the north-west side of the wall. There appeared to have been a brick yard to the south-east of the building. [Au(adp)] |
