Abstract: |
A field evaluation was undertaken in response to a planing application for the construction of two detached houses and five mews style dwellings, with associated garaging and landscaping. The evaluation results suggested that the medieval town did not extend as far south as this proposed development area. A boundary ditch depicted on the 2nd edition OS map was located and dating evidence recovered suggested that it was open in the 18th/19th century. The ditch cut a ploughsoil of possible medieval date, associated with extant ridge and furrow in the grounds of the house. No further archaeological features were observed on the site. [Au(abr)] |
