Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed development site within an Archaeological Priority Zone was undertaken. Flint tools of palaeolithic to neolithic date, bronze age pottery and iron age remains had been recorded in the surrounding area. Roman cremations and burials and early medieval pottery had also been found. Later medieval settlement had been documented, and Civil War defences were constructed nearby in 1642-3. It was concluded that a soil survey incorporating archaeological trialwork should be carried out. [AIP] |
