Abstract: |
A field evaluation was undertaken in respect of a proposed planning application for an extension to the existing quarry. The evaluation comprised a field walking survey and trial trenches. No significant archaeological remains were identified. Observations included a possible post hole (undated), two post-medieval (probable) field boundary ditches, and confirmed the presence of a medieval? headland deposit indicated by aerial photographs. One flint blade and a flake were retrieved during fieldwalking, however, in general the finds assemblage was characteristic of manuring deposition and not suggestive of plough truncation of underlying archaeological features.
