Abstract: |
Excavation of a soakaway to the north of the chancel revealed at least four intercutting graves of possible post-medieval date, but no other archaeological features. Ground reduction work revealed a protruding stretch of masonry below the northern chancel wall. This may have represented the foundation of a former buttress at the east end of the chancel or underpinning work below the chancel wall. A trial trench around the buttress at the south east corner of the nave revealed a poorly made foundation that may have supported an earlier buttress. This foundation was clearly later than the more substantial nave wall foundation, which it butted up to. [Au] |
