Abstract: |
<summary>A watching brief was maintained during the excavation of a cable supply trench from the Slaughter House to the southern garden wall of Canons Ashby House. A thin lens of charcoal was exposed at a point 50 metres from the Slaughter House; this contained post-medieval brick and tile, together with animal bones. A wall built of ironstone blocks which had originally been faced by dressed stones was revealed nearby; a sherd of early medieval pottery was recovered from the base of the wall. A layer of burnt and decomposed brick and charcoal was exposed 70 metres from the Slaughter House. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
