Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed development site was undertaken. Excavations at the site in 1949 had revealed traces of a Roman town house, including mosaic floors which were preserved in situ in the basement of the standing building. Shallow pits and 1st and 3rd century pottery were also recorded. Medieval burials and chalk walls with vaulted arch foundations were found on a part of the site which lay adjacent to a church. It was concluded that an evaluation or a watching brief should be carried out. [AIP] |
