Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out prior to the construction of a new Northumberland County Records Office. The watching brief was carried out to determine the presence and nature of archaeological deposits within the development site and to assess the level of destruction caused by the reclamation of the site in the 1980s. All test pits were observed during the watching brief, but no archaeological structures were revealed. The remains of the levelled pit heap were found, and the shale deposits indicated material removed when sinking the pit shafts. [Au(abr)] |
