Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out in advance of a proposed two-storey building containing four flats. The method of making the foundations by piling, restricted the archaeological observations that could be made on the site. Very little human artefacts were seen, a few rare post-medieval pottery sherds were observed. One borehole near the east of the site had a feature indicative of a post-medieval pit. Other than this, there appeared to be little evidence of any activity on the site. The development site had been part of a garden for a property on London Road when first shown in 1838. There was no clear evidence of any subsequent building taking place on site. [Au(adp)] |
