Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out on the excavation of an 1100m length of trench for a new cable. Three small features were observed in the sides of the trench. None of these could be dated, although two were located in the vicinity of a known prehistoric site. The remaining part of the trench (totalling 7km in length) was fieldwalked and metal detected, usually after it had been backfilled, for artefact retrieval. The finds consisted of worked and burnt flint, medieval and post-medieval pottery, post-medieval building material and a number of metal finds of post-medieval date. No significant concentrations of material were identified although some struck and burnt flint from near the north end of the cable trench may have been associated with similar material found previously in the vicinity.
