Abstract: |
In the immediate vicinity of the proposed development, the earliest available sources suggested that the relatively flat land adjacent to the river was essentially marshland given over to pasture. It was likely that the construction of Bonhay Road and structural alterations to the leat channel destroyed a substantial amount of archaeological evidence, particularly relating to the original leat channel. Furthermore, 19th century restoration works on the adjacent weirs and revetment of the river bank may have limited the survival of earlier structures within the river. [Au(adp)] |
