Abstract: |
The archaeological survey identified the above ground remains which comprised the lock chamber (without its gates), the dock, and the warehouse with its wooded dockside platform and over-dock awning. The warehouse was substantially intact. The wooden dockside platform and sliding doors were still present. Modern buildings on the site were superficial and other buildings contemporary with the dock and warehouse had probably survived below ground level. The water level within the backfilled basins was probably the same as the adjacent canal, leading to the possibility of preserved organic remains. [Au(adp)] |
