Abstract: |
Watching briefs were carried out at two sites within the grounds of a castle, during the excavation of holes for fence and barrier posts. During construction of the fence, a sherd of medieval pottery and a deposit of undated daub were found. The source of the daub remained unknown, although several possibilities were suggested. The majority of the holes dug for barrier posts encountered previously disturbed soil. However, medieval potsherds were recovered and several small stones similar to some previously found within the outer ditch of the medieval castle were noted. Two of the holes, which were set against the boundary walls, revealed the wall foundations. [AIP] |
