Abstract:
The archaeological work was undertaken along the 30 km route of a gas pipeline, and consisted of topographical surveys at High Stotfold Farm, High Crow's House, Sheraton Grange Farm and Hart Bushes Hall, and evaluation by trial trench at High Stolfold Farm, Wodd View Farm, High Haswell Farm, Pig Hill, Bracken Hill and Great Eppleton. Twent-five trial trenches were excavated, numbered consecutively along the pipeline routes, trenches 16-20 were allocated out of sequence as the site they were intended to investigate, (Wood View Farm) was identified late in the allocation process. The trenches were originally intended to be between 15 and 30m in length and were nominally 2m wide. Features found included ridge and furrow earthworks, a possible medieval farmstead, plough furrows, an Iron Age settlement, and medieval ditches. [Au(adp)]
