Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief on two extensions and a new garage was carried out. Previous excavation had shown that at least the west end of the site lay on a Late-Saxon cemetery associated with the adjacent Romsey Abbey. The present groundwork were of insufficient depth to disturb the cemetery levels, though a small quantity of disarticulated human bone was recovered. The ground level in all trenches had been made up at least 0.75m during the 19th century. In trench 1 this dump material was shown to pre-date the present Church building of 1888. [Au(adp)] |
