Abstract: |
A magnetometer survey was carried out within two fields which lay to the south-west of an area where excavations had revealed the extensive and complex remains of a multi-phase site. An important Iron Age local centre and a large Roman settlement with clear signs of continuity of occupation between its precursor and a later Saxon settlement had been recorded. The survey located anomalies characteristic of archaeological features, including ditches, pits, possible trackways and structures. It was clear that the settlement had extended into the survey areas, and was likely to have continued beyond. [Au(adp)] |
