Abstract: |
A desk top study of a proposed development site which lay within an Archaeological Priority Area was undertaken. Documentary evidence indicated that a settlement may have existed at Wapping since early medieval times. However, it was thought that the focus of settlement had not moved to the riverside until the 15th century. A dump of 16th century material had been recorded near the site during a watching brief. It was concluded that the site lay in an area of high archaeological potential, and had certainly been occupied by early post-medieval times. An evaluation was recommended. [AIP] |
