Abstract: |
The proposed development was to consist of a new school hall at the Vicarage Primary School. A building previously occupied part of the site and the proposed new building would be located largely within its footprint. The site was located in an area of archaeological and historical significance. The site itself was part of the Archaeological Priority Area as defined in the London Borough of Newham's Unitary Development Plan. There was a moderate potential for prehistoric, Roman, Saxon, medieval and post-medieval remains. Cartographic evidence showed a 20th century structure previously occupied part of the site and therefore archaeological deposits may have suffered some previous impact. It was recommended that evaluation trenches be excavated to determine the impact of the structure and whether any archaeological remains were present in an area where archaeological investigation had been extremely limited.
