Abstract: |
A photographic survey and watching brief was undertaken on the site. The photographic survey suggested that the Toll Gavel property had 17th century origins and was originally three buildings. The Walkergate property was simpler and may have dated from the early 18th century. The watching brief turned up little archaeological evidence and everything was post-medieval in date. It was considered likely that medieval deposits existed below the level of a clay platform associated with the construction of the existing structures. [Au (abr)] |
