Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on three geotechnical test pits prior to the redevelopment of the site. The test pits and trial boreholes demonstrated the presence of alluvial deposits with archaeological/archaeoenvironmental potential. However, the boreholes indicated a depth of 'made-ground' of at least 2.3m on the site. The made ground may have included in situ archaeological deposits or may have represented disturbed or redeposited material, or perhaps most likely, combinations of both. The made ground overlay clay/silt alluvium and there was a record of peat from one borehole. [Au(abr)] |
