Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of the proposed site of a housing development within a conservation area and an Archaeological Priority Area was undertaken. Prehistoric artefacts of all periods had been recovered from the nearby River Thames, and Roman features had been excavated in the vicinity. A settlement had existed at Hampton by 1066, and the nearby Kingston Bridge had been constructed by the end of the 12th century. It was concluded that the site had potential for medieval remains, and that an evaluation would be necessary. [AIP] |
