Abstract: |
Observations of underpinning within the footprint of 1 Forest View revealed that the top of the natural cliff was approximately 9m east of the west wall of the outer bailey of Southampton Castle. Between the bailey wall and the cliff, a well built limestone wall ran east-west. The space west of the cliff had been utilised as a dump for waste from at least the post-medieval period. The site was laid out with gardens in the early 19th century, the present terraced housed was constructed in the second half of the 19th century. [Au] |
