Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken for Whitbread Severn Inns plc.. Foundations of one or more earth-fast buildings were found, predating the brick central range of Sheldon Hall. It also identified the nature of the foundations of the existing buildings, the location of the moat on the eastern side of the Hall and a series of probable garden features. The sequence of construction for the principal elements of the Hall were also determined. It was clear that the timber-framed wings preceded the brick central range, which was subsequently built up against them. [Au] |
