Abstract:
Trenches for new drainage pipes were excavated within the churchyard of the medieval church. A documentary search traced records relating to the structure of the church and the problem of water disposal. 12 burials were found which probably dated from the 19th century. Ceramic pipe fragments represented possible remnants from 18th-19th century drains. A mortar and stone spread may have related to a supposed early 14th century re-building of the chancel. Medieval and post-medieval pottery was found, but a lack of 14th-17th century finds suggested that the area might not have been used for burials until the 18th century. [AIP]
