Abstract: |
This survey was commissioned on behalf of Surrey County Council and the Surrey Archaeological Society, who provided joint funding as part of the Community Archaeology Project. The purpose of the survey was to assess whether the study area was suitable for designation as an Area of Special Historic Landscape Value, and to study and make a record of the historic landscape. The study area was shown to contain the potential remains of archaeological and historical landscapes of great interest. The range of archaeological remains was quite considerable, extending from the Palaeolithic through to the Second World War. In consequence, it was recommended that the area be accepted as an Area of Special Historical Landscape Value, and that further work be carried out in selected areas to give further protection to localised areas of particular importance.
