Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the removal of topsoil at a sand and gravel extraction site. Previous evaluation at the site had investigated a complex of cropmarks which had been identified on aerial photographs; many of these features had proved difficult to identify within the trenches. Probable Early Neolithic pottery was recovered from a shallow pit near a circular feature, which may have been a Neolithic ritual or mortuary monument. During the watching brief and a further evaluation of one area, linear features and a shallow ditch which may have represented field boundaries were observed, and modern pottery and drainpipe fragments were recovered.
