Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed development site within the area of Roman Londinium was undertaken. A small number of neolithic and iron age artefacts had been found in the surrounding area. Roman buildings and evidence of industrial activity had been excavated in the vicinity. Land reclamation near the site took place in the 12th century, and the area had been developed by the end of the medieval period. On the site itself, a possible Roman paved surface, a medieval and a post-medieval well and a post-medieval yard were observed during construction work in the 1950s. An archaeological evaluation was recommended. [AIP] |
