Abstract: |
An advance programme of field walking, topsoil magnetic susceptibility, and hand augering along 1km of the route of a replacement main indicated the position of a possible archaeological site near to the railway line, west of Pinchbeck. Surface finds included medieval pottery sherds. A local farm worker suggested a medieval date for stone building foundations said to have been revealed here during mechanical ditch cleaning. The pipe trench was excavated without inspection after no further archaeological intervention was requested by the Lincolnshire County Archaeology Section. [Au] |
