Abstract: |
Five sites were further studied as part of an evaluation of land proposed for mineral extraction: augering across the floodplain identified two palaeochannels containing deposits of possible environmental potential; trenching identified no trace of remains relating to a building of probable post-medieval/possible medieval date in the north-east corner of a field known as Shrubbery; fieldwalking and test-pitting in a plot known as Pig Pens identified an area of fire-cracked pebbles; fieldwalking and test-pitting in Boat Field identified a Mesolithic flint scatter; and fieldwalking in two fields known as Broom House and Broom Grasses recovered a number of sherds of medieval pottery. A series of linear earthworks were also identified within an area of plantation and adjacent areas. [AIP] |
