Abstract: |
A survey of the former Evesham & Redditch Railway (HWCM 15447) ì\nwas undertaken as part of the A435 Norton Lenchwick Bypass ì\nevaluation programme (the route of the proposed new road cut that ì\nof the dismantled railway in a number of places). The survey ì\nrevealed a number of railway sites which would be directly ì\naffected by the road, as well as others that might be indirectly ì\naffected. The railway was opened in 1866 and closed, south of ì\nAlcester,in 1962 (the line was closed throughout and lifted by\n1965); the surviving remains identified included bridge abutments,\nformer station buildings, signal boxes and distance markers. In ì\naddition, the survey considered a short section of the former ì\nEvesham, Redditch & Stratford-on-Avon Junction Railway that ì\njoined the Evesham & Redditch line at Broom Junction; this line ì\nwas closed in 1947. |
