Abstract: |
An open area excavation was conducted in advance of a proposed housing development. Further evidence of the Linthorpe Pottery industry and the Sun Brick Works were revealed. Evidence for the brick works (1860-1879) consisted of a number of brick clamps and layers of coal and slag dust with brick fragments. The Linthorpe Pottery industry was attested to with the remains of a substantial brick-built gas-fired kiln and complex of associated structures. Structures associated with another part of the process were also recorded. Pottery and kiln waste was also present as well as a back-filled cellar containing waterlogged wooden artefacts. [Au(adp)] |
