Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken within the Yorkshire Water Depot at Catterick Bridge during the excavation of six small test pits which were hand dug in advance of drilling three groundwater monitoring boreholes. Several of the test pits were located within an area where part of the Dere Street Roman road and associated burials were recorded during construction works in 1987. Towards the south-west corner of the depot compound modern overburden had masked any underlying archaeological features. No archaeological features were observed in other pits near the north-east and north-west corners of the compound. [AIP] |
