Abstract: |
The limited scope of the archaeological work enabled few conclusions to be drawn regarding the Sugar House and its environs. The mortar used in the construction of the walls suggested that the majority of the buildings were probably constructed in the mid to late 18th century. However, a number of the walls had been extensively rebuilt or repaired during the 19th century. A fragment of wall, found during the excavation of a service trench, was probably late 16th or early 17th century in date, although, as only the upper courses were visible, an earlier date for its origin was possible.
