Abstract: |
Archaeological excavation and a partial watching brief were undertaken in advance of a proposed development. A 13m long well preserved section of the foundations to Hadrian's Wall was located. The wall foundations were two courses of stonework high and 2.44m wide which was typical for that section of the wall. The Wall ditch survived across the full width of the site containing very few finds were recovered except for post-medieval material in the uppermost fills. Three rows of pits had been dug across the berm to the north of the wall. The pits were oval in plan and all three rows ran parallel to the wall. A couple of the pits possibly contained post settings. The findings of this work were going to warrant a full publication. [Au(adp)] |
