Abstract: |
The assessment identified that three Iron Age hillforts lay in the surrounding area of the site, but that only small numbers of prehistoric artefacts had been found in the immediate vicinity. A Roman road was thought to have passed nearby, but the few Roman artefacts which had been found, were not indicative of settlement. Saxon activity in the area appeared to have been centred to the south of the proposal site. Documentary evidence suggested that the site might have lain within a plot of the original medieval settlement of Frodsham. Much of its rear area was likely to have been cultivated during post-medieval times. [AIP] |
