Abstract: |
<summary>Salvage recording was undertaken at Rudge End Farm, Fownhope, for Sovereign Oil and Gas Plc during preparatory groundworks for a drilling compound and access road. The site was of archaeological interest as the access road crossed the site of a flint scatter (HWCM8337). Deposits relating to charcoal production were recorded. They included waste from the production process; a fence, which had been rebuilt on a number of occasions; and possible evidence of a charcoal burner's cabin. Truncation of all deposits had occurred through ploughing. Charcoal production was probably to provide fuel for a charcoal blast-furnace producing iron, or for lime-reducing kilns. {italon}Au{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} HWCM8337 |
