Abstract: |
An archaeological survey of the cave features and watching brief on groundwork was carried out at the site. Medieval rubbish pits were identified, sealed and cut by the stone foundations for a medieval timber framed building. Other medieval period features were destroyed by the cutting of a brick lined shaft into the cave in the 17th century. This shaft was surrounded by a flagged stone floor and a sunken floor structure.
