Abstract: |
Six engineering test-pits revealed the north face of the medieval town wall. The clay bank against the retaining wall was directly overlain by deposits of 18th century date. Three of the other four test-pits revealed the top of a dark clay fill probably of the ditch some 1.1m below the present ground surface. The clay fill was receiving material in the late 18th century. Probing suggested that the base of the ditch lay some 3.0m below the present ground surface. [Au] |
