Abstract: |
Groundwork for the new extension comprised the machine-excavation of foundation trenches, many of which revealed extensive disturbance caused by a previous modern building on the site. However, a series of ditches was present at the northern end of the site. The nature of their fills and general paucity of finds recovered from them indicated that they related to agricultural rather than settlement activity. The ditches were certainly pre-modern in date, and their presence at different levels within the layer sequence suggested that more than one period was represented. [Au(abr)] |
