Abstract: |
A desktop assessment of the archaeological potential of an area between Gulson Road and Gosford Street, currently occupied by Gulson Hospital and Coventry University buildings suggested that the character and potential survival of archaeological deposits differed between the hospital site and the area to its north. The hospital site had the potential to contain remains of the medieval town wall and two wall towers. Features associated with the Whitefriars monastery may also have been present, as may the remains of an 18th century brickworks. The northern part of the site was considered less likely to retain evidence of previous activities due to Morris factory construction in the 20th century. However it was considered possible that deposits and structures relating to craft and domestic activities could be encountered in undisturbed areas. [Au(abr)] |
