Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of the site and immediate vicinity was undertaken in advance of proposed residential development. The highest potential for archaeological remains was from the post-medieval period. Potential for medieval remains was moderate and low for Roman, Saxon and prehistoric remains. The likely survival of archaeological remains related to those associated with the Gasworks (1823-1970). However these were of limited value as only a small part of the works was within the study site and from the map evidence it was clear the area was redeveloped several times during its gas industry use.
