Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological monitoring and excavation during groundworks associated with various activities, the renewal of part of the sewer infrastructure, investigation of the drainage, test pitting, resurfacing of the courtyard and the insertion of a drain pit. Alterations and adaptions of the castle structure from the 13th century to the present date were recorded. These included an underground rectangular structure, constructed of dressed sandstone blocks, date and function unknown, parts of the gatehouse buttress, a blocked chamfered window, and a stepped foundation.
