Abstract: |
There was a considerable amout of evidence to suggest that the land within the study area had been the focus of human activity since the prehistoric period. Within the Camp itself, known archaeological resources comprised: a Scheduled Monument (SM720, made up of two Bronze Age round barrows). There were six further Scheduled Bronze Age round barrows located to the north of the Camp within the site. A single Iron Age pottery vessel was recorded as well as a well-preserved water meadow system on the River Frome dating from the 17th century. A Grade II Listed Buiding was also within the study area and both Camp and Training Area contained 20th century military remains, which were of possible national significance.[Au(abr)] |
