Abstract: |
An evaluation comprising earthworks survey and sample excavation at the rear of the Nags Head public house identified a series of former boundary ditches providing evidence of the Saxon origin and extent of the settlement in the 10th-12th centuries. Evidence of related domestic activity, however, was scarce and only represented by a small assemblage of contemporary pottery. A lack of medieval features and associated finds indicated that the site had probably been marginal to the focus of settlement throughout the later Middle Ages. [Au] |
