Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of a proposed redevelopment site was undertaken. Previous excavations in the surrounding area had recorded Roman buildings and pits, Saxon graves and medieval pits and burials. Cunard House was constructed on the site in 1930-32, and basements were excavated to a level below that at which archaeological deposits might be expected. It was concluded that no archaeological work would be necessary at the site itself, although a watching brief should be carried out during related engineering works nearby. [AIP] |
