Abstract: |
The study area appeared to have moderate archaeological potential overall, and there were few known archaeological sites within the immediate area. However, the line of Ermine Street, the Roman road followed by the present A419, provided greater potential in itself, and for related evidence of Roman date. The density of known archaeological remains within or just outside the study area suggested that there was in general higher potential for the by-pass route to impact upon buried archaeological remains of Iron Age or Romano-British date.
