Abstract: |
Previously earthworks were identified which were interpreted as a medieval or post-medieval field boundary enclosing an adjacent hill known as The Mowings. The evidence of the desk-based assessment suggested the presence of an earthwork bank within the study site was in fact a relic of a linear post-medieval field boundary, which was illustrated on a map of Ulverston dated 1832. The visual site inspection confirmed the presence of a lynchet in this location. The evaluation revealed that it was a lynchet resulting from past agricultural activity. A ditch was also found although its purpose was unclear. [Au(adp)] |
