Abstract: |
Evaluation trenching and subsequent watching briefs were carried out prior to and during the building of two new houses. A very large pit, or series of recut pits, was revealed during the trench evaluation. Large amounts of chalk and clunch rubble were excavated, by machine, from within this. Quantities of ceramic building material, mainly roof tile and animal bone, were present within the upper part of the feature, along with a little late medieval pottery. The feature was seen to cut a deposit of burnt clay. Three small undated pits were excavated in the northernmost trench. Watching briefs on the excavation of foundation trenches and drains revealed the further extent of the disturbances seen in the evaluation trenches. [Au] |
