Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation in advance of a proposed retail development was undertaken. The site was excavated in two main phases in December 2003 and August 2004. The site revealed the presence of significant archaeological remains of prehistoric date. Worked flint characteristic of the Mesolithic, Early Neolithic and Middle Bronze Age was recovered. Pottery dating to the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age was also recorded. Prehistoric features on the site included: ditches, pits, post holes and general linear features, and were suggestive of a settlement. Possible prehistoric plough marks were also recorded.
