Abstract: |
Five trenches were excavated within the proposed development area, targeting features identified from aerial photography and geophysical survey. These included a large rectangular enclosure and possible associated internal features. The main enclosure ditches identified, with evidence for the re-establishing of the boundary through time. Other linear features including gullies and ditches were also identified. No discrete features were present. The diagnostic flints recovered residually and unstratified from the site indicate activity during the late Mesolithic-Neolithic period. The vast majority of the small pottery assemblage recovered was medieval in date and mainly came from a ditch identified within the enclosure. Three abraded Roman sherds were recovered and were likely to be residual. Other finds types recovered included a cows tooth, a fired daub fragment and a ferrous object. [Au(abr)] |
